Here are some close ups on the new saw chain from within the X-cut series called C85. Side by side there are also the old H42 chain along with the 0,325 pixel chain SP33G X-cut.
C85 is a new 3/8 saw chain with 1,5 mm gauge and manufactured in the X-cut factory in Husqvarna, Sweden. A special sign of the C85 is the golden tie strap which helps out when sharpening the chain.
It is a full chisel chain and a 5,5 mm round file should be used when sharpening the chain.
The new saw chain will be released in february 2018.

Thank you for the pics, it seems like a chain that has been made to cut fast and with good “bite”. It has a nice deep gullet and seems to have a large cutting face which if the user can file well will give very good results.

Fredrik,
thank you for the pics from me too 😉
Interesting to see, that the SP33G (narrow kerf) and the H42 have low-kick-back feature on the link before the cutter, while this is missing on the new C85, which will allow more room in the cut for wood-chips and also should allow for better boring as well.
Cheers Marty

Hi guys, I can’t find the X Cut C85 in Canada. Hopefully I will be able to buy some.
From looking at the C85 factory grind angles , a 5.5mm round file will not form that profile.
But a single bevel chisel bit file could or the new Hexa file Stihl is introducing sometime in 2021.
