Good read, my first was a Jonsred around 35/40 cc don’t remember exact model. I have had and have far too many saws and now use a 592 XP full time in clear fell ops.

Good thinking ! Looks like a nice flat site ?

Just wondering how anyone with a 500i is getting on with it? I’m running one at present and it a good saw not outstanding and the RS chain seems to be very awkward to get set just right to get maximum cutting and smooth to bore with ! Be interested to hear from anyone else what they think ?

I had misunderstood the last post, I thought it was just uphill not uphill and over a crest !! So in fact the last thing you want is it to hold on too much as it may ‘chair ! The comms is a big almost I would say an essential part of that job ?

Maybe use a “swanson” on those, put simply the face would look like a humbolt and our traditional face used together if you get what I mean ? so the hinge stays intact. The swanson used to allow the stem to hit the deck quickly but I use it to help keep it altogether in some cases.

That went well, looked like awkward trees tall and slender so not a whole lot at the base to play with !

Hi Muz , outinthewood yes that’s me although no fame !! I get what you are saying about the set up but like every thing that’s just an alternate way and I think the Koller has a good place and it’s not that expensive.

Hi weasel squeezer, I had wondered about these and although I like the value of not banging a dead tree around I would rather use a Tirfor type winch with a kinetic recovery strap/rope. take up the tension gently and the kinetic rope would give the pull without shock. Rig up on one stump and only low down on the stem to fell so on the strongest…[Read more]

As long as it’s not stalling then I would be unconcerned, I do notice a very slight reaction like that with mine but tends to be after a run of “fast” de limbing and only very infrequent. It just seems to be the AT doing it’s thing !

This has all come via UK dealers but it would seem it is a worldwide change ? I have seen no official word from any of the manufactures. As we know the push to “clean” the small / mid-range saws were to give carbon credit to enable the larger saws to continue pretty much unchanged but it would appear that trade off has not worked ! I was hoping…[Read more]

It was confirmed by several dealers in UK and affects all the makes, the Dolmar / Makita 9010 is now gone and by an account from a friend in the US Stihl’s 088 is to either be gone or made to comply. It would appear that Stihl may have got a better handle on it with the 462 and 500i. I’m looking forward to Husqvarna’s replacements ?

So it would appear that it’s the end of the road for the above saws due to emission regulations so what do we hope to see in their place and when ?

As the advice given to you on Forestry Forum, you need a bigger saw !!

Hi Andy, try chainsawbars.co.uk he sells skip chain etc and is very good to deal with. I know it’s not skip but he is doing a very good deal on the “new” Oregon 73 EXL which looks very good, very much like the Husqvarna C 85. All the best and hope this helps a little !

Hello everyone ! Now that the 572 has been around for sometime, although only a short time in UK and Ireland !, I was wondering how are you the new users getting along with them ?
I got mine during the hottest weather we have had for almost 40 years and was cutting windblown Spruce. I cut for harvesters and for 5 days a week so it’s important how…[Read more]Dave Keith replied to the topic Husqvarna 572xp in the forum Chainsaws 4 years, 9 months ago
You won’t be able to buy one in the USA until 2019 ! Austria,Poland and the Swiss are the first to get them followed by the rest of Europe Spring 2018 ……Myself and Husqvarna Ireland were pretty disapointed to say the least !!

Thank you for the pics, it seems like a chain that has been made to cut fast and with good “bite”. It has a nice deep gullet and seems to have a large cutting face which if the user can file well will give very good results.
